Acro- Acrobatic Dance

Acrobatic Dance, or "Acro," incorporates gymnast-like tumbling and flexibility skills with the beauty and execution of dance. Safety and proper form are of utmost importance in our acrobatic training program. All upper-level Acro dancers must be concurrently enrolled in ballet or jazz.

 

Intro to Dance with Acro (taken with Intro to Dance) Ages 4-5, Beginning and young Acro students, focuses on safety, flexibility, strength, beginning and finishing positions, and proper body, foot, and leg positions. This class includes 30 minutes in Acro and 30 minutes in Intro to Dance class. Skills include splits, bridges, forward rolls, handstands, and cartwheels.

 

Acro 1: Ages 6+, Beginning and advancing Acro students, focuses on safety, flexibility, strength, beginning and finishing positions, and proper body, foot, and leg positions. Skills include splits, bridges, forward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, round-offs, and beginning walkovers

Students enrolled in this class must be concurrently enrolled in a Jazz or Ballet class or with instructor approval.

 

Acro 2: (by instructor placement) Advancing Beginning Acro students, builds upon skills learned in Acro I and focuses on increased flexibility, strength, and consistency of proper skill execution. Skills include independent splits (no arms), independent front and back walkovers, round-offs, independent handstands, and handsprings.

Students enrolled in this class must be able to independently execute proper forward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, bridges, and round-offs prior to enrollment and must be concurrently enrolled in a Jazz or Ballet class or with instructor approval.

 

Acro 3: (by instructor placement) Intermediate Acro students, builds upon skills learned in Acro II and focuses on increased strength, power, control and proper skill execution. Skills include front and side aerials, handsprings, leg movement while in the handstand position, acrobatic partnering, and the combination of moves in tumbling passes.

Students enrolled in this class must be able to independently execute Acro II skills, in addition to proper front and back walkovers, progressing to standing back handsprings, and chin stands and must be concurrently enrolled in a Jazz or Ballet class.

 

Acro 4: (by instructor placement) Advancing Intermediate Acro students, builds upon skills learned in Acro III and focuses on increased strength, power, control and proper skill execution. Skills include front and side aerials, back layouts, hand walking, handstand presses, back handsprings, front and back tucks, controlled leg movement while in elbow and handstand, partnering, and the combination of moves in tumbling passes.

Students enrolled in this class must be able to independently execute Acro III skills and must be concurrently enrolled in a Jazz or Ballet class.

 

Acro 5: (by instructor placement) Advanced Acro students, builds upon skills learned in Acro IV. Students placed in Acro 5 must be able to independently execute Acro IV skills, including exceptional flexibility, control, and strength in acro dance and execution of front tucks, back tucks, and side, front, and back aerials as part of advanced tumbling progressions.

Students enrolled in this class must be able to independently execute Acro IV skills and must be concurrently enrolled in a Jazz or Ballet class.

 
Ballet

Ballet is a classical, artistic dance form using precise and highly formalized set of steps, positions, and gestures. Classical ballet is characterized by light, graceful, fluid movements. Ballet is the foundation for all genres of dance. Advanced ballet often incorporates the use of classical pointé shoes and technique.

 

Intro to Dance with Ballet: This ballet class is specially designed for students, ages 4-5, and focuses on the fundamentals of ballet, flexibility, leg and foot turn out, body posture, chaine turns, and leaps. This class runs as part of an Intro to Dance class and will include Ballet as well as Tap and Jazz dance styles.

 

Ballet I: This class is specially designed for students, ages 6+, and focuses on the fundamentals of ballet, flexibility, barre work, leg and foot turn out, body posture, proper muscle engagement, pirouettes, chaine and pique turns, and leaps. Students should be proficient in these basic fundamentals before placement in the next class level.

 

Ballet 2: (with instructor placement only) Advancing and Intermediate ballet students, focuses on the fundamentals of ballet, flexibility, advancing barre work, leg and feet turn out, body posture, proper muscle engagement, pirouettes, chaines and pique turns, and leaps. Students should be proficient in these basic fundamentals before placement in the next class level. Students enrolled in this class must be enrolled in a second Ballet 2 technique class.

 

Ballet Intermediate/Advanced: (with instructor placement only) Intermediate to Advanced ballet students, focuses on the fundamentals of ballet, flexibility, barre work, leg and feet turn out, body posture, proper muscle engagement, and more complex turns and leaps. Students enrolled in this class must be enrolled in three Ballet technique classes per week. In the fall, once per week rehearsals for The Nutcracker is permitted as a third class.

 

Pre Pointé Ballet 1/2: (with instructor recommendation only) Intermediate to Advanced Ballet students with proper requisite training. Must be taken in addition to two ballet technique classes per week. Pre Pointé focuses on foot, ankle, and leg strength, body control and position, and proper Pointé technique. Safety and prevention of long-term injury are of utmost importance en Pointé and dancers who do not follow instructor recommendations and expectations for class attendance and in class, work may be removed from the class.

 

Intermediate/Advanced Pointé (by instructor recommendation only) Intermediate to Advanced Ballet/Pointé students with proper requisite training. Must be taken in addition to a minimum of three ballet technique classes per week. Safety and prevention of long-term injury are of utmost importance en Pointé and dancers who do not follow instructor recommendations and expectations for class attendance and in class, work may be removed from the class. This class is taught as part of the Ballet Intermediate/Advanced class.

 
Beginning Dancers

Our Young Dancers: We offer many classes for our younger, preschool and early elementary aged students! Fusion strives to give our students many options in various genres of dance! Our students will get an introduction and foundation in tap, ballet, jazz, and creative movement.

Intro to Dance with Acro: (Ages ) Beginning ballet, tap, and jazz. This class is specially designed for students who are ready to learn new ballet, tap, and jazz skills. The ballet portion of the class focuses on basic ballet positions, introductory barre work, and body alignment. The tap portion of the class focuses on variations of basic tap sounds and skills, such as flaps, shuffles, and Irishes. The jazz portion of the class focuses on flexibility, fundamental jazz movements, and basic turns. This class is an excellent stepping stone for all genres of dance!

Creative Dance (2+) Beginning tap and ballet. Students must be 2 by September. This class focuses on basic skills, body movement, spatial awareness, and musical rhythms. Students will gain confidence through dance.

Creative Dance (2-3) Beginning tap, ballet, jazz, and creative movement. This class is designed with the early preschooler in mind. Creative Dance focuses on basic dance skills, body movement, spatial awareness, flexibility, muscle memory, musical rhythms, and making new friends. Students will learn and gain confidence through dance!

 

Intro to Dance with Acro (Ages 4-5) Beginning tap, jazz, and acro. For acrobatic safety purposes, this class is subject to approval by acro instructor. Creative Dance with Acro focuses on basic dance and acrobatic skills, body movement, spatial awareness, flexibility, muscle memory, musical rhythms, and making new friends. Students will gain confidence through dance!

 

Intro to Dance with Ballet (4-5) Beginning tap, ballet, and jazz. Creative Dance with Ballet focuses on basic dance and specific ballet skills, body movement, spatial awareness, flexibility, muscle memory, musical rhythms, and making new friends. Students will gain confidence through dance!

 

Intro to Dance with Hip Hop (4-5) Beginning tap, jazz, and Hip Hop. Creative Dance with Hip Hop focuses on basic dance and Hip Hop skills, body movement, spatial awareness, flexibility, muscle memory, musical rhythms, and making new friends. Students will gain confidence through dance!

 

Hip Hop Littles (K-1st): Beginning, Old School style Hip Hop emphasizes body movement to rhythms and the beat of modern, appropriate hip hop-style music. Skills include body isolations, basic hip hop steps and strength of movement. This fun and exciting class is geared toward the developing, early childhood mind and body.

 
Hip Hop

Hip Hop refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. Hip hop involves more freestyle than other dance genres and our Fusion classes are multi-level by age group.

 

Hip Hop Littles (Pre K-1st): Beginning, Old School style Hip Hop emphasizes body movement to rhythms and the beat of modern, appropriate hip hop-style music. Skills include body isolations, basic hip hop steps and strength of movement. This fun and exciting class is geared toward the developing, early childhood mind and body.

 

Hip Hop Kids (2nd-5th): Beginning to Intermediate, Old School style Hip Hop emphasizes body movement to rhythms and the beat of modern hip hop-style music. Skills include body isolations, basic hip hop steps and strength of movement. This fun and exciting class is geared toward the developing, elementary-age mind and body.


Hip Hop Middle School (6th-8th): Middle School Hip Hop is open to all middle school students, from the beginner to more experienced dancer! Hip hop includes work on body isolation, movement to rhythms and beat of modern hip hop-style music. and strength of movement and performance quality. This ultra fun and upbeat class is geared toward the middle school mind and body!


Hip Hop High School (9th-12th): High School Hip Hop emphasizes strength of movement and control, strong body isolation, freestyle movement, performance and showmanship. This fun and hard-hitting class is geared toward the high school mind and body and is open to all levels.

 
Jazz

Jazz is a fun, upbeat dance style. It uses traditional ballet technique along with upbeat music to perform various movements, turns, and leaps. Fusion style ranges from modern, commercial jazz to traditional, Broadway “Fosse” style jazz.

 

Jazz 1/1B (6+):  Beginning and Advancing Jazz, focuses on the fundamentals of jazz, flexibility, body movement, muscle engagement, body isolation, and basic leaps, walks and turns. Skills include single and double turns, chaines, various jazz walks, leaps, and kicks. This class is specially designed with the young dancer in mind.

 

Jazz 1/1B (9+):  Beginning and Advancing Jazz, focuses on the fundamentals of jazz, flexibility, body movement, muscle engagement, body isolation, and basic leaps, walks and turns. Skills include single and double turns, chaines, various jazz walks, leaps, and kicks. This class is specially designed with the older dancer in mind.

 

Jazz 2/3: Dancers must have prior Jazz 1 or Jazz 2 experience and placed with instructor approval. Jazz 2/3 is taught in conjunction with Contemporary 2/3 and builds upon previous Jazz 1 & Jazz 2 skills with emphasis on strength and range of movement, turns, leaps and kicks. Skills include multiple turns, chaine and pique turns, jazz walks, use of levels, jete leaps, battement style kicks, and performance quality. Dancers must be concurrently enrolled in 2 ballet classes or with instructor approval.

 

Jazz 4: Advancing Intermediate and Advanced Jazz, must have prior Jazz 3 experience and placed with instructor approval. Jazz 4 builds on previous skills and increases the dancer's range of motion, strength, and technical skill. This class is designed to combine technical skills, such as triple and quad turns and various styles of turns, leaps, jumps and kicks, with music and jazz choreography. Dancers must also be enrolled in 2-3 Ballet classes per week.

Tap

Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Dancers at Fusion will explore several major variations on tap dance including: rhythm tap, classical tap, Broadway tap, and post-modern tap.

 

Tap 1/1B (6+): Beginning and advancing tap students. Focuses on the fundamentals of tap, sounds, rhythm, strength and proper muscle engagement. Skills include flaps, shuffles, brushes, heels and time steps. This class is designed with the young dancer in mind.

 

Tap 1/1B (9+): Beginning and advancing tap students. Focuses on the fundamentals of tap, sounds, rhythm, strength and proper muscle engagement. Skills include flaps, shuffles, brushes, heels and time steps. This class is designed with the young dancer in mind.

 

Tap 2/2B: Beginning to Intermediate tap dancers with prior Tap 1 or Tap 2 experience and instructor approval. Tap 2/2B focuses on building upon previously learned skills, speed, clarity of sound, emphasis of sounds, and rhythm tap.

 

Tap 3: Advancing Intermediate tap dancers with prior Tap 2 or Tap 3 experience. Tap 3 focuses on building upon previously learned skills. Skills include increased rhythm tap speed, wings, separated wings, toe stand wings, pullbacks, and turns.

 

Tap 4: Advanced tap dancers with prior Tap 3 or Tap 4 experience. Tap 4 focuses on building upon previously learned skills with an emphasis on learning fast choreography with varying rhythms.  This class includes a combination of Tap 3/4 and Tap 4 Choreography.
